New Publication Alert: Geochemical Evolution & REE Potentiality of Atrai River Sediments

We are pleased to announce a new high-impact research publication co-authored by Niloy Nandi and fellow researchers, exploring the sedimentary geochemistry and potential economic resources of the Atrai River basin in Bangladesh.

โ€‹๐Ÿ“Œ Research Overview

โ€‹The study, titled “Geochemical Evolution of Atrai River Sediments, Bangladesh: Insight into Provenance, Weathering, Climate, Transportation Dynamics and REEs Potentiality,” utilizes X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) to deliver comprehensive insights into source-to-sink processes and elemental distribution.

โ€‹Key Findings:

  • โ€‹Provenance & Weathering: Indicates a mixed provenance signature originating from both the Higher Himalayan Crystalline Series (HHCS) and Lesser Himalayan Series (LHS), characterized by low to moderate weathering conditions (CIA: 56.57โ€“71.64).
  • โ€‹Tectonic & Climatic Insights: Sediments were deposited in an oxic, passive margin environment under semi-arid to semi-humid climatic conditions driven by variations in the Indian Summer Monsoon.
  • โ€‹REE Resource Potential: Significant enrichment of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) was identified in the midstream region, highlighting key targets for potential resource evaluation.
