โThe study, titled “Geochemical Evolution of Atrai River Sediments, Bangladesh: Insight into Provenance, Weathering, Climate, Transportation Dynamics and REEs Potentiality,” utilizes X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) to deliver comprehensive insights into source-to-sink processes and elemental distribution.
โKey Findings:
- โProvenance & Weathering: Indicates a mixed provenance signature originating from both the Higher Himalayan Crystalline Series (HHCS) and Lesser Himalayan Series (LHS), characterized by low to moderate weathering conditions (CIA: 56.57โ71.64).
- โTectonic & Climatic Insights: Sediments were deposited in an oxic, passive margin environment under semi-arid to semi-humid climatic conditions driven by variations in the Indian Summer Monsoon.
- โREE Resource Potential: Significant enrichment of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) was identified in the midstream region, highlighting key targets for potential resource evaluation.
